Doppelmayr Headquarters Wolfurt
Linearity is the guiding principle in the design for cable car manufacturer Doppelmayr’s new headquarters. The building responds to its site between expansive moorlands and an industrial estate by adopting an elongated, seven-storey volume orientated along the neighbouring Rickenbach River. The new building sets a self-confident but restrained tone at the gateway to the industrial ensemble. The architecture’s linear emphasis embodies the values and outlook of the company for which it has been designed. Doppelmayr’s products are subtly represented in the slender, horizontal lines of the exterior. The track-like glazing connections within the facade structure evoke the theme of coupling different transport elements on cable cars (such as seats or cabins), developing an abstracted image of Doppelmayr’s area of expertise. The compact organisation allows, aside from economical construction and operation, minimal walking distances inside the building. Transparency imbues a sense of generosity to the office spaces and encourages internal communication through informal exchange among colleagues. Ultimately, Cukrowicz Nachbaur’s concept offers visitors and users a spatial embodiment of the global network of Doppelmayr.
