St. Gerold Residential Development
The project is located on a very steep, south-facing slope on the edge of St Gerold. Small to medium detached residential buildings define the immediate vicinity; the only larger neighbours being a guesthouse and a hotel to the east. In response to these surroundings, the design proposal takes the shape of two clear, simple volumes. This respects St Gerold’s urban structure and preserves the permeability of the slope. Two three-storey timber buildings each rise from a concrete plinth and culminate in traditional pitched roofs which fall parallel to the slope. Timber cladding imbues the two buildings with haptic and atmospheric qualities, while also contributing to their understated appearance. Spacious loggias offer a comfortable extension to the living space as well as private, sheltered transitions from inside and out.
