Red Cross Campus Lustenau
The existing school complex is considered an artefact of the late 1960s architecture, but has been transformed in recent years by extensions and conversions into an incoherent patchwork. The original school building is characterized by a clear two-storey structure around a courtyard. Each classroom benefits from a double aspect and is easily recognisable from the outside. School. The design reacts to the complex brief with a simple project idea and transforms the characteristic elements into a new, forward-thinking building without compromising its underlying structure. The concept includes a single large form containing a ring of rooms around a central common area. Campus. The two new gymnasium and kindergarten buildings are aligned orthogonally to the school, standing alone towards the west. The staggered position of the volumes generates well-proportioned exterior spaces in a campus structure that is permeable within the neighbourhood. Social housing is proposed in the westernmost area of the property.
