The basic idea and concept are based on the principle of building on existing structures and follow the site\u2019s architectural history through successive extensions. To the west of the castle complex, a trapezoidal, five-storey volume is being developed which adopts the geometry and fan-shaped layout of the existing buildings, continues the ensemble\u2019s gentle variations in height, relates respectfully to the main building, and completes the complex towards the west.<\/p>\n
The positioning, extent and number of storeys of the new building result from a balance between maximum compactness, the smallest possible footprint and appropriate height development, and from the quest for optimisation in terms of climate, fire safety and operation. All climate-sensitive functions are concentrated in the new building, whilst the public areas are located within the existing castle complex.<\/p>\n
Not a representative building. An archive building. Functional, hermetic and reduced to the essentials. The sloping exterior surfaces integrate naturally into the existing roofscape \u2013 unobtrusive yet distinctive. A new feature in the landscape and yet a familiar form. Depending on the angle and distance, the volume evokes different images: of a large tent, a shelter, a roof or agricultural architecture.<\/p>\n
The building focuses on itself and thereby gains strength. Archaic in appearance, sculptural in approach \u2013 an element that fosters a sense of identity with high recognition value, a tranquil place of remembrance, a quiet repository that permanently preserves the cultural memory of the region.<\/p>\n
