Cukrowicz Nachbaur interpret tasks and materials from their context, precisely, simply and naturally, bringing complex requirements to unforseen clear and economic answers with added value. With natural surfaces, harmonious lighting and perfect proportions, they create robust and inspiring spaces for all senses, strong but at the same time calm their architectures serve the evolvement of all scopes of life. The architectural firm was founded in 1996 by the two partners Andreas Cukrowicz and Anton Nachbaur-Sturm. The studio is dedicated to architecture and urban planning with a focus on the interface between architectural discourse, outstanding design and a passion for innovative and harmonious solutions with added value. The main field of activity covers a wide range of topics and, in addition to private construction projects, includes projects in the public sector, cultural buildings, exhibition buildings, schools, sports buildings, residential buildings, office and administrative buildings, and sacred buildings. The firm has received numerous international prizes and awards.

Our goal is to create the highest possible utility value and to occupy an equally significant cultural position. We strive to imbue things with beauty and develop buildings that are loved, because architecture that is respected and literally valued will endure in the long term and is therefore sustainable in a special way. Through intensive engagement with a wide variety of content and topics, we make an important contribution to the further development of building culture. We create something lasting and thus change the world a little. Helping each other, taking the lead and personal responsibility. We combine individual strengths, embrace flat hierarchies and believe in a positive working culture.

Andreas Cukrowicz, 1969 born in Bregenz, studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology from 1988 to 1993 and in Prof. Penttilä’s master class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1993 to 1996. 1992 he began working with Anton Nachbaur-Sturm while still a student, and immediately after graduating, 1996 the two founded their joint architectural firm. In addition to his work as an architect, Andreas Cukrowicz is a member of various design advisory boards and was president of the Central Association of Austrian Architects in the Vorarlberg regional association from 2005 to 2011. He has been chairman of the Vorarlberg Regional Design Advisory Board since 2018. He has been a member of the board of the Vorarlberg Architecture Institute since 2022. Various teaching activities took him to the University of Art and Design Linz and the University of Applied Sciences Spittal/Drau in 2010, and to the Technical University of Munich as a visiting professor in the master’s programme in design in 2012-13 with Hermann Kaufmann and Florian Nagler. He is also involved in promoting building culture through numerous judging and lecturing activities.

Anton Nachbaur-Sturm, 1965 born in Bludenz, studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology from 1986 to 1993. 1992 he began working with Andreas Cukrowicz while still a student, and immediately after graduating, 1996 the two founded their joint architectural firm. In addition to his work as an architect, Anton Nachbaur-Sturm is a member of various design advisory boards and was a member of the Section Board of Architects from 2010 to 2018, WE curator of the Federal Chamber from 2010 to 2024, and a member of the Competition Committee of the Chamber of Architects for Tyrol and Vorarlberg from 2010 to 2022. He has been a member of the Independent Expert Council of Vorarlberg since 2011. He is also involved in promoting building culture through numerous judging and lecturing activities.
