  • Motel One in Bregenz

A new urban building block is being created between the railway station and the city centre. Directly adjacent to the existing row of buildings along Montfortstraße, a two-part structure with varying heights and depths is being positioned, which continues the existing perimeter block development and at the same time forms its conclusion. A five-storey section acts as a transitional element, while an eight-storey building with a striking gable end clearly marks the end of the perimeter block and at the same time acts as a solitary structure on Weiherstraße. The design responds discreetly and harmoniously to the existing building structures and creates well-proportioned outdoor spaces on all sides. The offset buildings, varying heights and high point at the intersection reinforce the sculptural design concept, supported by a plaza-like area with restaurants and a two-storey gate as a new entrance and transition to the adjacent neighbourhood. The 128-room hotel extends over eight floors. The extra-high ground floor houses a lobby and conference rooms, while the sixth floor features a sky bar with a terrace and panoramic views of Lake Constance, the Pfänder mountain and the Alps. A key unique selling point of the building is its striking appearance. Precast concrete elements with differentiated structures and textures alternate with large floor-to-ceiling glazing, while a good depth effect enhances the plasticity and the colouring of the elements conveys quality and naturalness. The overall composition is inviting and identity-forming.
