  • Church Altenstadt Feldkirch

In addition to the renovation of the church complex, the concept envisages a correction and reorganisation of the spatial and liturgical disposition. The distancing effect of the altar and the sacred area is to be cancelled. The steps of the altar island will be removed and the altar will be moved forwards towards the nave. The transept, which was added later, will be separated from the church interior and the wall opening will be closed. A new ambo is positioned in balance with the altar in terms of content and space, and a new baptismal font is located at the intersection of the main entrance and side entrances. By moving the altar forward, an appropriate area for the liturgy of the day is created in the choir. The arrangement of the pews in the nave is derived from the existing situation in the form of four blocks. A new entrance facing north will be created opposite the existing side entrance. The two corner positions next to the main entrance will be remodelled, with a new worship niche to the north and a new staircase to the gallery on the south side. The ‘Inclusium’, as a spatially and historically valuable original cell of the complex, is to be dismantled in accordance with its original statement; with the positioning of the tabernacle, the special room will become another place of worship as a sacrament chapel. The sacristy will be adapted to optimise its use. The outer shell of the church will remain virtually unchanged; only minor adjustments are planned.
