  • Carinagasse staff accommodation in Feldkirch

The site occupies a rising slope in the area of transition from the large buildings of the state hospital in the south and the small-scale heterogeneous development on a gentle slope in the north. The planned relocation of the main entrance to the hospital is to be articulated by a generous canopy roof with a bus terminal; it will create a highly frequented new node with urban character. From the two existing themes of urban density on the one hand and the small-scale heterogeneous development on the other, a development proposal will be developed consisting of six offset polygonal buildings, which simultaneously reacts to the topographic situation and subtly mediates between the two structures. The kinked floorplan traces the contours of the slope, while the staggered arrangement develops interlocked open spaces and generates the greatest possible connection to the exterior space by keeping as much of the site free as possible and allowing a flow through the landscape on all sides.
