Double multi-purpose hall Türggenau Salez
The existing situation is located in the transitional area between the settlement of the former arable and grass farming village and the open landscape of the Rhine Valley. The wide plain of agricultural meadows and cultivated land between the Alpstein massif and the Rätikon mountains characterises the village on a large scale. Farms that are still in operation and have been modernised with barns and sheds reinforce the image of the unity of rural development and traditional use of the landscape. The new multi-purpose hall complements the settlement with a clearly defined solitary structure at an appropriate distance from the school complex and with maximum preservation of the open cultural and landscape space. The precise positioning seeks a balance between a solitary effect and a sense of belonging to the neighbourhood and school complex, creating an address on Rheinhofstrasse. Moving away from the existing buildings creates independence and generates good permeability of the open spaces. The stacked volume with its asymmetrical flat pitched gable roof evokes distant memories of large-scale agricultural typologies. Simple structures guarantee optimal operational processes, while a compact organisation minimises the footprint, costs and distances. The open space concept adopts typologies of the settlement as well as the cultural landscape and the floodplain landscape: the terrain is gently graded from the settlement area towards the main canal: the hard court areas are at a higher flood-proof level, the grass playing field with the formation of a seating step is also lower and the southern, near-natural and wetter areas form the lowest level and transition to the landscape area. The main path axis from the school is widened and centred to the main entrance of the sports hall. A chaussured path leads from the agricultural centre through the biodiverse meadows along the sports areas. A path connection to the hiking trail along the main canal and to the running track enables a 350 metre long loop around the sports field.
