Fire station and maintenance depot Davos
The new building responds to the complex task with a simple basic idea and develops a calm and clear linear structure along the south-western boundary. The volume develops from the level of the village street over three storeys towards the south-east, overcoming the difference in terrain, and becomes five storeys high at the level of Bahnhofstraße due to the topographical situation. The appropriate extension and harmonious height development of the passageway seeks balance in the existing environment, while the precise positioning creates spatial order with two clear square situations at different levels in addition to urban clarification. The design minimises the visible cubature, and the neighbouring buildings are not restricted in terms of sunlight. The complex programme, with its very specific requirements, is solved with a simple and economical geometry with clear functional assignments that make use of the topography. In addition to the architectural design, the concept focuses on optimising all operational processes. Simple structures and a compact organisation minimise the above-ground footprint, costs and distances.
