REAR AWARD 2026 - Winner
Hittisau Fire Station and Cultural Centre, 2000
Reflect Architecture Award 2026
The fire station and cultural centre, which houses the Women’s Museum in Hittisau, has been awarded the inaugural REAR AWARD 2026.
The REAR Award seeks out buildings that have been exposed to the elements and in use for a generation, bearing the marks of ageing, transformation and patina – buildings that are marked by time, use and climate, yet retain their quality, presence and cultural significance. The award shines a spotlight on buildings that have been part of our everyday lives for more than 25 years. By bringing these structures back into current discourse, it opens up a perspective on what endures and what may yet come to be.
The building was designed by Cukrowicz Nachbaur Architekten and completed in 2000. The client was the municipality of Hittisau; the building is used by the volunteer fire brigade, the town band and the Hittisau Women’s Museum.
